You paid how much for rocks ... boy, have we heard that sentiment from non-marine aquarists !!!
The aquascaping uses three different live rock sources; Fiji, Tonga, and Vanuatu. Leading up to the introduction of the rock, water hit the tank on January 2nd, 2005, salt on January 9th, and the first rock (Fiji) on January 13th. Throughout this process, the water level was approximately 6 inches below the overflow comb, to allow a little less water to work through for the rock setup.
At the bulkhead end, a Grand Cave structure was constructed, with many openings, and one large one up front. The Grand Cave has a height of 10 inches that allows plenty of swimming headroom inside. Two rock bommies were made in the remainder of the tank, one in the middle back (with a bridge connecting to the Grand Cave structure), and one in the front right; both designed with cave or semi-cave structures. The 30 inch tank width was vital to allowing the wide range of cave structures and hiding spots.
