11. James³ McKinlay (Alexander², Alexander¹) was born on 10 August 1848 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^4,1,3 He married Margaret Taylor, daughter of James Taylor and Cecilia Scott Reid, on 20 July 1876 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^13,1,14 He died on 5 May 1918 in Calgary, Alberta, at age 69.^15,1,16 He was buried on 8 May 1918 in Union Cemetery, Calgary, Alberta.¹⁶

He was ill with diabetes.¹¹ He was a fruit merchant and commercial clerk between 1876 and 1906.^5,7,17,18  He and Margaret Taylor emigrated circa 1912 from Scotland.¹⁹

Margaret Taylor was born on 19 March 1848 in Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Scotland.^7,1  She was a sewing machinist.⁵  After her husband, James, died in 1918, Margaret moved to North Vancouver, B.C. to live with her daughter, Celie and her husband, Jack McNeil. Margaret was famous for making jams and jellies and stuff. A grand-daughter recalled her renown in this area as follows:

"And I don't know what berry this was, but I'm thinking it was Oregon grape, because in North Vancouver the forest was right opposite. Along the ditches in the side, you know how things grow, Grandma went and those were poison berries. But Grandma couldn't see them being poison berries, so she picked some, and made some jam, and she ate it ... and she didn't die. So I kind of think it must have been Oregon grape jam and it's good. So that was Grandma."²⁶

She died on 12 April 1926 in North Vancouver, B.C., at age 78, and was buried 4 days later in North Vancouver Cemetery, North Vancouver, B.C.^20,21

• + 14 iii. James Taylor McKinlay, born 31 March 1882 in Hutchesontown, Lanarkshire, Scotland; married Caroline Pollock Mulholland Seright.

   

• 15 iv. Margaret Yuill McKinlay was born on 22 December 1883 in 81 Aitkenhead Road, Hutchesontown, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^1,14 She died on 16 March 1885, at age 1.^1,22

   

• + 16 v. John Reid J. McKinlay, born 17 December 1885 in Clydebank, Scotland; married Robina Dewar.

   

• + 17 vi. Fraser Yuille McKinlay, born 16 April 1888 in Clydebank, Scotland; married Violet Lonie Alexander.

   

• + 18 vii. David Reid Taylor McKinlay, born 6 December 1890 in Clydebank, Scotland; married Annie Gallacher.
